Kaolin
At AMI, we have kaolin facilities that produce both hard and soft clays. Our Gordon, GA facility produces "soft clay" which is air float kaolin. Our Aiken, SC facility produces "hard clay” which is a reinforcement clay.
Air float kaolin is used as a raw material in the fiber glass and ceramic industries. It is also used as a filler in the asphaltic roofing, rubber, adhesive, agricultural, construction and paper industries. Our soft kaolin products and their applications include the following.
ACTI-MIN® SA-1
Used in soft rubber applications which include: Computer mouse pads, automotive floor mats, toilet plungers, gaskets, bath mats, floor tiles.
ACTI-MIN® CR
A fine particle size, high plasticity kaolin used primarily used in the refractory industry.
ACTI-MIN® WC
A high strength kaolin similar to the CR in particle size but with lower residue and moisture specifications primarily in glazes.
ACTI-MIN® WC-5
An intermediate to coarse particle size with good plasticity and very white firing. Primarily used in glazes, tile and dinnerware bodies, and ceramic grinding media.
ACTI-MIN® CAST
A coarse particle kaolin with excellent drainage. Suitable for sanitary ware and all casting operations.

ACTI-MIN® RP-2, ACTI-MIN® RP-80, & ACTI-MIN® SA-1
Used as fillers in Caulks, Sealants, mastics, tapes such as duct tape and surgical tape, grouts, asphalt coatings, joint compound, roofing granules, ceiling tiles.
ACTI-MIN® CR
A general filler kaolin where moisture and residue control are not emphasized. Typical uses include Portland (white) cements where kaolin is used for its Al2O3 content and whiteness.
ACTI-MIN® FE
Typically used Carriers for pesticides and insecticides sunscreens for fruits and vegetables.
Champion®
A hard clay product typically used in automotive hoses and belts, shoe soles, wire and cable, rubber tires for lawn equipment, garden hoses, rubber floor mats and tiles.
CROWN®
A hard clay product typically used in automotive hoses and belts, shoe soles, wire and cable, rubber tires for lawn equipment, garden hoses, rubber floor mats and tiles.
WHITE CROWN®
A hard clay product typically used in automotive hoses and belts, shoe soles, wire and cable, rubber tires for lawn equipment, garden hoses, rubber floor mats and tiles.
